You can breathe a romantic atmosphere at the Maso di Villa Relais di Campagna and Cantina. Among floral fabrics, vintage furniture and antique porcelain. This charming farmhouse with swimming pool is located on the highest point of the Collalto hill, in Susegana, Veneto, Italy. With views of vineyards, olive and fruit trees.
Maso di Villa. This is the name founded in the maps of the Napoleonic Cadastre of the early nineteenth century. Used as a house and stable in the twentieth century, the building was abandoned in the seventies. It took 4 years to restore its luster: "We have restored the stone of the façade, preserved all the architectural details and used only recovered materials: old wooden planks or antique terracotta tiles for the floors, ancient exposed beams for ceilings and trusses. The handles on the windows are the original ones ”says Chiara Lucchetta, an attentive but never intrusive house owner; creative, but also precise and efficient.
"A country inn where you can rediscover the ancient culture of slow living", says Chiara Lucchetta.
A country chic décor
Cosy and confortable, with a touch of country elegance. Poor farmers furniture ceramic switches, old wrought iron beds, objects of the Venetian tradition, embroidered sheets and antique prints are the result of years of wandering among markets and second-hand dealers. The wooden headboards with floral motifs, as well as the staircase with geese, are the work of Spironelli, a local craftsman.
"The rooms have no television, but windows open onto nature and small comfortable corners in which to sit and read a magazine while sipping a glass of wine."
A bucolic breakfast
Homemade cakes, jams and biscuits. Yogurt, cereals, cold cuts and cheeses. Breakfast is served under the pergola or in the room called the "winter greenhouse" for its brightness. Floral motifs and the iconic striped fabrics of Eger dress the tables. And then: plates, bowls, saucers and cups in ceramic hand-decorated. Like those of San Marco (Nove), Solimene and De Simone , side by side with pieces unique from the antique markets in the area.
A ruby red wine
In the vineyards surrounding the farmhouse, a ruby red wine is produced, with violet reflections due to aging. A small organic production of 5,000 bottles a year, but of the highest quality. “We only produce 2 Colli di Conegliano Rosso DOCG labels: the Maso di Villa and the Nasi Rossi, a niche wine, elegant and balanced on the palate, aged for 24 months in French oak barriques ”says Chiara Lucchetta.
Why a red wine in the Prosecco DOCG area? Matters of 'terroir': perfect for the production of a great red wine. "In reality Collalto di Susegana is located in the Colli di Conegliano red DOCG area, a prestigious denomination even if less known than Prosecco - explains Chiara - And then we prefer red wine!"
Taking care of the vineyard - with obsessive care - is Chiara's father, Giuseppe, known as Beppe: "Because a great wine can only be obtained from 'great' grapes". Mother Loretta, on the other hand, is in constant motion. She has a great passion for growing fruit and vegetables: “She is very good at alternating blooms throughout the season and loves mixing vegetables, flowers and small fruits. If it were up to her, she would always be in the garden! "The daughter jokes.
There are many ways to experience the Maso di Villa Relais di Campagna and Cantina. Private visits to the vineyard and wine tasting. As well as picnics in the open air or days by the pool (also bookable by external guests).
