Sleeping in a house of two artists, the Trullo Nostrano. A stone's throw from the historic center of Cisternino, in Puglia. Natural materials stand side by side with ancient fragments and the art of the owners Nadiya Yamnych and Walter Espedito Trento: ceramics, lamps, paintings and sculptures.
Whitewashed walls, organic linen and local products: "Trullo Nostrano tells our story. We have renovated it, keeping its soul and embellishing it with details and memories that have made it completely personal. It was our home, so it contains emotions, objects and works of art that we have found or created" say Nadiya and Walter.
Sustainable raw materials create a contact with nature. Concrete tables and benches were built by Nadiya and Walter in their workshop. "We usually use the 'cocciopesto' technique: shattering of tiles and pottery tempered with lime, and reused to create something new and imperfect" explains Walter Espedito Trento.
Trulli. They dot the countryside or sprout from the roofs of historic villages. These are conical dry stone constructions typical of central-southern Puglia. Once temporary shelters in the countryside or permanent homes for farmers, today they are exclusive holiday homes.
The Itria Valley. A piece of land rich in tradition but influenced by international artists who are looking for inspiration or a slow lifestyle. Like the Italian photographer Lisetta Carmi, the Iranian war photojournalist Manoocher Deghati and the movie director Marco Bechis. "There is a lot of excitement here. I am a foreigner, I come from Ukraine, but I do not feel foreign because there is an international movement in the Itria Valley, "says Nadiya Yamnych.
Two multidisciplinary artists. This is how Nadiya and Walter define themselves. Performance, visual art, painting and sculpture. Today they have given birth to Nùevù, a multidisciplinary studio of architectural design and restoration projects that combines art, design and architecture. Interior decoration? It combines aesthetics and functionality, as well as reflecting the soul of those who live in the house. Just like the Trullo Nostrano.
