Behind the brand, the multifaceted personality of the designer Susanna Gioia. Garden and interior designer. Archeology enthusiast. Three alpacas. To launch her clothing line was her dream.

Susanna grew up among tailors and meters of fabric. Her parents in 1975 founded the manufacturing company Confezioni Gioia. Armani, Moschino and Dolce&Gabbana are just some of the brands with which the family business has collaborated (today it works exclusively for Fabiana Filippi).

During her university studies, the designer already made her own clothes. She sold them in summer markets. Experimenting in fashion was her desire. And so in 2006 Lemuria was born. A small company in the green heart of Italy, in Umbria.

Each dress is made within the factory in a sustainable manner, from design to shipment, limiting waste and optimizing resources. The result? Made in Italy clothes and 100% traceable. I asked the stylist Susanna Gioia to tell me something more.

How did you approach the world of fashion?

In a very natural and spontaneous way. My parents started their manufacturing company in 1975, Confezioni Gioia. I was born in 1979, fashion has always been my world.

Who did the passion for fashion passed to you?

Passions arise from the soul. I believe that the environment can make them flourish, but they depend on the individual. As a child I was passionate about fashion and furniture, they were my favorite games: I designed clothes and house interiors.

Tell me about your career

I have a degree in Communication Sciences. During my studies I launched a small clothing line distributed only in Umbria where I attended summer markets. After finishing my studies I wanted to experiment with fashion, and in 2006 Lemuria was born.

How would you describe Lemuria in 3 adjectives?

Creative, body friendly and sustainable.

What are the characteristics, values ​​and philosophy of the brand?

The main feature of the brand is the refinement of the lines. Lemuria garments are of high quality, made with care, with a low ecological impact and sustainable from a production point of view. We create dresses with no expiration date, that women can love over time, made to last, adapt and follow women in the changes of life and fashions.

What does Lemuria represent for you?

An experimental project. The name derives from a lost continent, something to look for, a utopia. Lemuria for me is an expression of creativity and freedom. Creativity because with transformable dresses you create shapes; freedom because you can always do different things.

What is style in your opinion?

Style is a regulated set of elements. The set of coherent singularities returns a stylistic unity. In fashion, style means knowing how to combine elements in order to create looks that can represent the personality of the wearer.

How would you define the Lemuria style?

The Lemuria style is eclectic, because is romantic. At the same time futuristic and functional.

Something to express my personality with.

Where can we buy Lemuria?

Lemuria has been distributed throughout Italy in multi-brand stores for 15 years. Since 2021 we have decided to distribute only through our Perugia store and the online shop.
